Indian Slate |
Cocobolo |

The slate we use in our mosaics is imported from
India. We select each piece for its unique color and pattern. The tabletops
are sealed to protect the stone and make it water resistant, and the
sandstone colored grout accents the shape and colors of each stone. |
Cocobolo is a rare tropical hardwood found primarily in Costa Rica and
Nicaragua. Natural oils give this exquisite wood a natural satin luster.
It is a very dense, finely textured wood. The inlay in the photo above
is Red Oak. |
Mesquite |
The size of the pieces used in any given mosaic pattern
are dictated by the size of the space in which we are laying the stone.
They can range from 5" pieces on a larger table to chips of stone that are
less than a quarter of an inch. The closeness in which we lay the stones
together also is dictated by the space. The smaller, or narrower the
space, the closer the stones are placed, giving the mosaic pattern a very
thin band of grout between each stone. |

The Mesquite used on several of our pieces is highlighted with an edge of bark. The yellow
band is sap which has seeped out of the wood and hardened when it became
trapped between the bark and heart of the wood. See the
Mirrors,
Sofa Tables and
Wine Rack Tables pages for more photos of this wood. |

South American Padauk |
This tropical hardwood is a
vibrant reddish orange with maroon veins accented in
the grain. It is dense, like Mesquite, making it a heavy, hard
wood. See the Coffee Tables,
Occasional Tables and
Trivets pages for more photos
of this wood. |

Cedar |
No two pieces of
Cedar are alike. Some are predominantly deep red with some yellow as the
first photo above shows, and others are vibrant yellow with a large band of
red running through the middle, as the second photo above shows. |

Bucote grows in the West Indies and
Central and South America. This lustrous wood has colors that vary
from golden brown to red with a deep black linear grain and, in some
cases, many eyes and unique markings. |
